Bed-In

In 1969 John Lennon and Yoko Ono held two week-long Bed-In's for Peace which were their non-violent ways of protesting wars, in an attempt to achieve world peace.

John and Yoko were married on March 20 1969 and they knew that their marriage would be a huge press event, so they decided to use the publicity to promote world peace.

They stayed at the Amsterdam Hilton for a week and invited the world's press into their hotel room where they talked about peace. After their other stunts, such as the naked cover of the Two Virgins album, the press were expecting John and Yoko to be having sex.

John and Yoko's marriage and their first Bed-In was the subject of the song The Ballad of John and Yoko .

A second Bed-In took place in Canada in May 1969 in which John and Yoko stayed at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, culminating in the recording of the peace anthem Give Peace a Chance on June 1. The Bed-In was only one of John and Yoko's many "stunts" in the wake of their marriage. It was followed by other public presentations such as Bagism, which also called for social change.
