Belvedere College
Belvedere College is a Jesuit-run secondary school located in Dublin City, Ireland. It was founded in 1841. Facilities at the school include a 25 metre swimming pool, a gymnasium and a theatre. As opposed to many of the schools in Dublin, Belvedere is a private school; that is fees must be paid in order to attend, although a scholarship scheme is available. Belvedere is an all-boys school and all the current teaching staff are lay-persons. The school has a strong rugby tradition which remains to this day. Mockingly some people refer to it as "Belvo".
Belvedere College is the backdrop for much of James Joyce's novel Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
Another school like that of Belvedere College is St.Conleth's College located on the southside of the city.
