Ben Johnson (actor)
Ben Johnson, Jr. (June 13, 1918 - April 8, 1996) was an American movie actor.
Born in Foraker, Shidler, Oklahoma, of Cherokee and Irish ancestry,Ben Johnson was a ranch hand and rodeo star before becoming involved in the movies.
He appeared in Western films directed by John Ford such as She Wore A Yellow Ribbon and Rio Grande. He went on to become a favourite of Sam Peckinpah before winning an Academy Award for his performance as Sam The Lion in The Last Picture Show.
He was the World Champion Steer Roper in 1953.
For his contribution to the motion picture industry, Ben Johnson has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7083 Hollywood Blvd. In 1982, he was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
