Bidhu Jha
Bidhu Jha is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He is currently a member of the Manitoba legislature.
Jha moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1970. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and has taken post-graduate training in Industrial Engineering and Management. Prior to his election to the Manitoba legislature, he served as President and CEO of Optimum Trading Corporation, Ltd. . He is a recipient of the Asia Pacific Award of Entrepreneurship from the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba, and was the first Manitoban to manufacture human-engineered, ergonomically designed computer workstations.
Jha had an extensive history of community service in Manitoba prior to his election, serving on the board of Manitoba Telephone Systems , the province's Crown Corporations Council , the Canadian Cancer Society and the Deer Lodge Foundation . In 2002, he was presented with a Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal .
Jha first sought election to the Manitoba legislature as a New Democrat in the 1999 provincial election, but was defeated by Progressive Conservative John Loewen in the south Winnipeg riding of Fort Whyte. He was elected for the east Winnipeg riding of Radisson in the 2003 general election, defeating Tory candidate Linda West by 3888 votes to 2901. On November 4, 2003, he was named Legislative Assistant to the Minister of Science, Energy and Technology .
