As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,650 people, 711 households, and 430 families residing in the city. The population density is 677.7/km² (1,752.6/mi²). There are 812 housing units at an average density of 333.5/km² (862.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.61% White, 0.00% African American, 0.79% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.52% from two or more races. 1.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 711 households out of which 27.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% are married couples living together, 5.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.5% are non-families. 34.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.24 and the average family size is 2.92.
