Björn Engholm
Björn Engholm (November 9 1939) is a German SPD politician. He was Minister-President of Schleswig-Holstein, 1988-1993 and leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, 1991-1993.
While Engholm was popular with the electorate (partly due to his public persona deliberately reinvoking that of erstwhile Chancellor Helmut Schmidt), he was forced to resign as party leader in 1993 after indiscrepancies surfaced over the Schleswig Holstein state elections of 1987. He was succeeded by Rudolf Scharping.
He also resigned as Minister-President the same year. His successor was Heide Simonis.
