Blue baby syndrome
Blue Baby Syndrome is a term that is the nickname or category of several different diseases:
These include:
- cyanotic heart disease
- the tetralogy of Fallot
- transposition of the great arteries
- hypoplastic left heart syndrome
- methemoglobinemia
Its name refers to the symptom that occurs when infants contract these diseases -- their skin turns a noticeable blue in response to their heart troubles.
