Bob Crompton
Robert 'Bob' Crompton (26th September 1879 - 1941) was a former Blackburn Rovers F.C. and England football player. He captained England 22 times between 1903 and 1914 and was capped 41 times.
Born in Blackburn, Crompton played his entire career for Blackburn Rovers, (1896 and 1920), and won the league twice as captain of the team in 1912 and 1914. He later went on the manage Blackburn between 1926 and 1930, leading them to the FA Cup victory over Huddersfield in 1928. Crompton then returned as manager in the late thirties to guide them to the Second division Championship. Crompton died in 1941, still in charge of his hometown club to end a fifty year association with his beloved Rovers.
