Body Count
- For the number of people killed in an event, see body count
Body Count is a "crossover" heavy metal band, best known for being fronted by Ice T and causing a furor with the release of "Cop Killer" from their debut album, Body Count . Besides Ice T, Body Count included Ernie-C, Mooseman , Beatmaster V and D-Roc. Their album attacked, in graphic terms, various aspects of racism and criminality in South Central Los Angeles, including corrupt police officers. A few months after Body Count was released, parent groups and other advocates began protesting "Cop Killer". After months of intense pressure, Warner Brothers took the song off the album. Ice T left the company soon after. Ice T's own Priority Records released Body Count's follow-up, Born Dead . Sales were slow, and Mooseman left the group. (1997) received better reviews than ever before, but sales were still low. Mooseman was shot in a drive-by in winter 2000 while working for Iggy Pop.
