Gameplay

Boktai 2's gameplay is largely identical to that of the original, consisting of a series of stealth- and puzzle-oriented dungeons ending in boss battles against vampires. Additions include new weapons, the ability to forge weapons, a money system, and various subtle alterations.

Storyline

The game takes place in San Miguel, Django's home town. As Django arives he is confronted by a mysterious vampire who steals the Gun Del Sol (Solar Gun) and somehow uses it on Django. Unarmed, he makes his way through the dungeon and is greeted by Zazie the Sunflower girl. She gives him the Vice Del Sol (Solar Glove), which gives Django the abilty to give ordinary weapons like a sword the power of the sun.

He then arrives at what is left of San Miguel. Upon arriving he finds out that the vampire who stole the Gun Del Sol has been throgh here. He also hears that Smith the town blacksmith is missing. He decides to go find Smith in hope of finding out something about the vampire. He is told by Violet, a young girl who runs the warehouse, that she saw Smith head towards the Cathedral. Django decides that was the best place to start looking for him. The story evolves from here into something much larger.

Characters

There are a number of new characters added in this installment of the series. Like Kid who runs the potion and armour shop. Lady who runs the library who is a guild master and tarot master. Cheyenne the Wind Warrior who runs the weapon shop and then there is the coffin shop keeper.

Then there are the old favorites like Master Otenko, Sabata, and Lita who now runs the item shop. Unlike in the first game you don't grow solar fruits. Lita sells them to you.

Money

In this game you don't use sunlight just for energy anymore it is a form of currency. You use solar energy you deposit into the bank as money and you can take soll from your solar station and put it into the bank or use it as energy for your vice del sol. You can also sell items and weapons to gain soll.

Unlike in the first one you don't start over from the begining of the game when you beat it. Also unlike the first game you can unlock a minigame. The minigame is simply a cat and mouse game but it can be addictive. You have to beat the game twice to unlock it. Then talk to Nero and you can play it as much as you want. Also like in the first there is a place to test your skills.

Dream avenue and the Arena

Boktai featured a level named the "Azure Sky Tower" which presented a formidable challenge to players who have completed the game; Boktai 2's equivalent is named Dream Avenue. Progress through the level yeilds Tarot cards. In this installment there is also an Arena to test the player's skills. There are four difficulty levels to the arena: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Every time you complete a rank you get a special item. Plus you can replay any rank as much as you want for free items or weapons.

Missions

When Lady comes back to the library you can do various missions from different characters. There are four levels and three missions for each area. You get rewards for doing the missions. At first you get tarot cards but when you repeat the mission you only get a potion of some sort. Also in some missions you get items that you can get nowhere else. Some missions have time limits and others have to be done to unlock other missions.
