Bonita is located at 32°39'30" North, 117°2'7" West (32.658420, -117.035336).
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 12,401 people, 4,179 households, and 3,397 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 977.2/km² (2,533.3/mi²). There are 4,281 housing units at an average density of 337.3/km² (874.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 71.99% White, 3.11% African American, 0.56% Native American, 8.54% Asian, 0.31% Pacific Islander, 10.64% from other races, and 4.84% from two or more races. 30.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,179 households out of which 35.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.4% are married couples living together, 10.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% are non-families. 14.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.94 and the average family size is 3.22.
In the CDP the population is spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 95.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP is $70,109, and the median income for a family is $79,333. Males have a median income of $50,495 versus $39,653 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $31,131. 3.7% of the population and 2.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 2.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
Bonita Vista High School is located on Otay Lakes Road. It has an IB diploma programme and some of its students have attended prestigious schools such as Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and many others.
Southwestern College is a community college adjacent to Bonita, in the city of Chula Vista.
