Boot Hill
Boot Hill is the name for any number of cemeteries, chiefly in the American West, which began during the 19th century as the burial places for "those who died with their boots on"; that is, violently.
These are the locations of some of the better known:
- Tombstone, Arizona
- Bonanza, Custer County, Idaho
- Idaho City, Idaho
- Anamosa, Iowa
- Dodge City, Kansas
- Hays, Kansas
- Seney, Schoolcraft County, Michigan
- Billings, Montana
- Virginia City, Montana
- Ogallala, Nebraska
- Riley Camp, Quay County, New Mexico
- Canyon City, Oregon
- Tilden, Texas
- Tascosa, Oldham County, Texas
Boot Hill is also a community in Cecil County, Maryland.
As an homage to the common meaning of the term, TSR, the maker of Dungeons and Dragons, briefly marketed a Western-based role-playing game called Boot Hill. A 1970s arcade game went by the same name.
