Borivali

 This suburb in northern region of Mumbai is also spelled as Borivli.  The estimated population of Borivli in 1991 was over 6 lakhs (609617) people. The Borivali railway station is an important station in the Mumbai suburban railway.

Demographics

The people living in this area of Bombay are predominantly middle class. Like in other parts of north-western suburb of Mumbai, the people are friendly and warm, a characteristic distinct to suburban Bombay. Most of the people in the area are either first or second generation residents from small towns and rural India. They have a blend of traditional ethos and middle class lifestlye and aspirations. The language spoken by most people in public life is Hindi and English, though they speak their own regional languages in their homes and community. The region has a considerable number of Marathi and Gujarati speaking people.

Important Landmarks

Borivali is one of the few places in the world which has a national park within the city limits. The park is called as Sanjay Gandhi National Park. It has few lions and panthers and also includes a 4th c B.C. archaeological site called as Kanheri Caves. Borivali has a prominent educational complex managed by Franciscan institution based in Germany. It includes one of the top schools in India, St Francis D'Assisi High school, a semi Boarding School (or Day - cum boarding school) with English as a medium of instruction, a Management Institute and an Engineering college: St. Francis Institute of Technology. The large entertainment extravaganza, "Essel World" & the largest water park in Asia, "Water Kingdom " are located at Gorai Creek, in Borivali.
