Borlänge Municipality

(Redirected from Borlänge)
Coat of Arms

Borlänge is a Municipality in Dalarna County, in central Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 586.4 km². Of the total population of 47206, 23675 are male, and 23531 are female. The population density of the community is 81 inhabitants per km². Borlänge suffers from a relatively high crime rate.

The city of Borlänge received its privileges in 1944 after several smaller towns merged. Today a population of 40,880 (1996) makes Borlänge the largest city in Dalecarlia, even larger than its northern historic neighbour Falun located a couple of kilometres away. Together the two cities form a region with close to 100,000 inhabitants.

Borlänge has always been an industrial town surrounding the iron mill of Domnarvet and the paper mill of Kvarnsveden . The city has two state authorities: the department of rails (Banverket) and the department of roads (Vägverket). Suitable for a city which structure is severely divided by rails and roads, without any real city centre.

The city has a previously successful football team, although currently in a free fall through the series. IK Brage , named after the Norse god of poetry, has a history of 18 seasons in the Swedish Premier Division (Allsvenskan). Brage play in green and white and host their home games at Domnarvsvallen Stadium in Borlänge with a capacity of 14,000 seated.
