Bradlees

Bradlees was a chain of discount department stores based primarily in the Northeastern United States.

The first store was opened in New London, Connecticut in 1958.

The company was acquired by grocery chain Stop & Shop in 1961. Stop & Shop would own the chain until 1992.

Bradlees had successfully made it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1999 only to go bankrupt again and close its doors in 2000.

At the time of its closing, there were 105 Bradlees stores in seven states.

Many of its former store locations were purchased by Wal-Mart.
