Brock University is a modern comprehensive university located in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. The primarily undergraduate university has a student population of over 16,000 full- and part-time students.

The university was founded in 1964 as one of a series of universities created in Ontario to handle the undergraduate education of baby boomers. It has since expanded its role as a comprehensive university, and now offers a number of graduate post-graduate courses. Over 70% of Brock's student population come from outside the Niagara Region, the highest number of non-local students at any Canadian University.

Brock University was ranked second in The Globe and Mail's 2003 University Report Card, and had the third-highest increase in external research funding in all of Canada. The University is experiencing unprecedented growth, with several multi-million dollar expansion projects underway. Despite this growth, university administration has decided to not seek enrollment beyond the 16,000 full-time student level.

Brock was named for Major General Sir Isaac Brock, who lost his life at Queenston Heights in the War of 1812. His last words are said to be, "Surgite! Push on!" - which have become the University motto.

In late 2004, Brock University president David W. Atkinson announced that he would be leaving Brock as of August 1st, 2005 to assume the presidency of Carleton University. A new president has yet to be named.

Athletics

The university is represented in Canadian Interuniversity Sport by the Brock Badgers.
