Brooklyn, New South Wales

Brooklyn is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, 35 kilometres north of Sydney's central business district. It is within the Hornsby Shire local government area. Population (2001): 677.

Situated at the southern bank of Hawkesbury River, Brooklyn was established in the 1880s as the base for the construction of a major railway bridge linking Sydney with northern New South Wales. The construction company named the town after Brooklyn of New York City, USA. (A replacement bridge was built in the late 1930s, which is still in use today.)

Today Brooklyn is a tourist attraction, with a good marina facility. It is served by the Northern railway line (see CityRail) and the F3 freeway.
