Brooklyn is a suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It is located three kilometres south of the city centre, on the eastern slopes of hills above Happy Valley which extends south towards the Owhiro Bay on the Cook Strait coast. Excellent views across the southern end of the city can be gained from the suburb.
It is named after the borough of New York City, and many of the streets are named after former US Presidents:
- Grover Cleveland
- Calvin Coolidge
- James Garfield
- Herbert Hoover
- Thomas Jefferson
- Abraham Lincoln
- William McKinley
- William Taft
- George Washington
Interestingly, the nearby suburb of Kingston has Canadian-themed names.
