Butcher paper
Butcher paper is cheap but sturdy paper that is sold in large rolls. Originally sold to butchers, butcher paper is now used for a wide variety of purposes, notably in grade schools where it is used for arts and crafts. Butcher paper sold in the food industry is still uncolored, but butcher paper is also available in a variety of colors.
Butcher paper owes its low cost to two factors. First, it is a lower grade of paper than what is sold in a stationery store. Second, it is sold on rolls instead of being cut, eliminating a potentially costly step in the process.
