Buzz cut

A buzz cut is a type of haircut named for the sound of the electric clippers which are used to shear the hair very closely to the scalp. It is one of the most rapid haircuts possible, usually taking little more than a minute to cut a full head of hair.

Most buzzcuts are cut down to a number 1 or with no guard. In military boot camp, they often cut new recruits' hair down to stubble.

In Seattle during the 1990s, the "Buhner buzz cut" was popular because Seattle Mariners player Jay Buhner had one. Fans could get a buzzcut and receive free tickets to a select game.

Predominantly a male hairstyle, the buzzcut is becoming increasingly popular with women. Among the celebrities who have recently worn or currently wear this hairstyle are Demi Moore, Cate Blanchett, Rachel Weisz, Natalie Portman and Robin Tunney.
