Cahawba, Alabama
Cahawba (sometimes spelled Cahaba) was the first capital of the State of Alabama. Established in 1820, Cahawba served as the capital from 1820 to 1826, when the capital was moved to Tuscaloosa.
During the American Civil War, the Confederate Cahawba Prison was located here.
Cahawba was the county seat of Dallas County until 1866, when the county seat was moved to nearby Selma.
