Cainan
Cainan, קינן, (a Biblical name)- possession; smith. Also written Kenan. (1. Chr 1:2)
(1.) The fourth antediluvian patriarch, son of Enos. He was 70 years old at the birth of his son Mahalaleel, after which he lived 840 years (Gen. 5:9-14), then being 910 years old when he died.
"Kenan lived seventy years, and became the father of Mahalalel. 5:13 Kenan lived after he became the father of Mahalalel eight hundred forty years, and became the father of sons and daughters 5:14 and all the days of Kenan were nine hundred ten years, then he died." Genesis 5:12-14 WEB
(2.) Usually called the "second Cainan." In Septuagint, the son of Arpachshad, mentioned in most manuscripts of Luke 3:36. He is not named in most of the Old Testament manuscripts. Most readers believe that the name is a wrongful addition, as did Irenaeus and Eusebius.
