California State University, East Bay (CSUEB, formerly California State University, Hayward, and called CalState Hayward or Hayward State) is a branch of the California State University system. CSUEB's main campus is located in Hayward, California. Warren Hall, its signature building on top of the Hayward hills, overlooks the scenic eastern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area. The building can be seen for miles. CSUEB also has a campus in Concord, California in Contra Costa County, and an extension in Oakland, California.

The university is best known for its strong business and education departments, where a large portion of California teachers receive their certification. Also of particular interest, CSUEB has a thriving music department. The CSUEB Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dave Eshelman holds annual performances in Yoshi's of Oakland.

The university publishes The Pioneer, its mascot being Pioneer Pete. CSUEB also participates in the Internet2 project.

The California State University Board of Trustees approved the proposal to rename the campus to California State University, East Bay on January 26, 2005. [1]
