Camden is a town located in Oneida County, New York, USA. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,028.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 140.2 km² (54.1 mi²). 139.9 km² (54.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.22% water. The Camden school district is the second largest geographically in New York state.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 5,028 people, 1,881 households, and 1,346 families residing in the town. The population density is 35.9/km² (93.1/mi²). There are 2,020 housing units at an average density of 14.4/km² (37.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.11% White, 0.38% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 0.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,881 households out of which 35.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.5% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% are non-families. 24.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males.

The Town of Camden is served in the elementary grades by four schools: Annsville Elementary, Camden Elementary, McConnellsville Elementary, and North Bay Elementary. All of these students proceed to Camden Middle School and Camden High School.
