Cape Finisterre
Position of Cape Finisterre on the Iberian Peninsula
Cape Finisterre (in Spanish: Cabo Finisterre, literally Cape Land's End) is a rock-bound peninsula in the north-west of Spain.
It formerly gave its name as a sea area on the UK Shipping Forecast, however the area was renamed FitzRoy in 2002 to avoid confusion with the Spanish area of the same name, which survives.
Because it is a prominent landfall on the route from northern Europe to the Mediterranean, several naval battles have been fought near Cape Finisterre. See battle of Cape Finisterre.
