Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy is the ninth album by British singer/songwriter Elton John, released in 1975 (see 1975 in music). It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart.
The album is an autobiographical look at the struggles John and lyricist Bernie Taupin had in the early years of their career.
"Philadelphia Freedom" was originally released as a single only but is included as a bonus track on the remastered CD reissue. The song was dedicated to tennis player Billie Jean King, who coached a tennis team called the Philadelphia Freedoms.
