Casa del Moral
The "Casa del Moral" (House of the Moral), located in the city of Arequipa in Southern Peru, is a large ancestral house built around 1730. It is one of the best and most conserved samples of baroque-mestizo civil architecture in Peru. The name of the house derives from the emblematic presence of a distinctive centennial tree of "moras" (blackberries) in the center of the main patio of the large house.
When walking around the different atmospheres of the house one can appreciate the unique baroque-mestizo architectural characteristics as well as the beautiful collection of paintings of the "Escuela Cusqueña" (School of Cusco) of colonial Peru. The library of the house contains more than 3,000 volumes of mainly hispanic character. Its restoration took place thanks to the help of the Consul of England in Arequipa in recent years. Presently, the house is the property of the Peruvian bank Bancosur.
