Castle town
A castle town is a kind of town or city where residents live surrounding the castle at the center.
Many large towns and cities in Japan were originally created as castle towns. Among them are:
Castle towns are also common in Medieval Europe, where towns would form around ancient Roman fortresses. A good example is London, which sprang up around ancient Londinium.
