For music the case was different: at the end of the 18th century the "classical" style in western music still had to be defined (...in fact it was defined as the musical style of the 2nd half of the 18th century) - so at that time a neo-classical or neoclassicist style for music was impossible. Neoclassicism in music was only possible when the period of romantic music (which evolved from the classical era in music) drew to a close by the end of the 19th century: only at that time classical music could be rediscovered and lead to neoclassicist music.
