Category:Scrolling shooters
Scrolling shooters, also known as "Shoot 'em ups" or "Shmups", emphasize fast-paced shooting on a large scrolling playfield.
The distinction between a shooter and a shoot 'em up is not well defined, but this is another early genre which has a mixed following today.
Shoot 'em ups are further divided into horizontal (side view) and vertical (top view) shoot 'em ups, but there are also some borderline cases like alternating horizontal and vertical stages in Konami's Axelay , or even 3-D graphics and third-person perspective like in Nintendo's Starfox, which is, at heart, still a shoot 'em up.
