Catherine Helen Spence
Catherine Helen Spence (31 October 1825 – 3 April 1910) was an Australian teacher, journalist, politician and leading suffragette. In 1897, she stood (unsuccessfully) as a candidate for the Federal Convention held in Adelaide which made her the first woman ever to stand for public office in Australia.
