Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
As of July 1, 2001, the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) is now the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
HCFA's most prominent contribution to the American healthcare industry is the development of the standard health insurance claim form, the HCFA-1500. Previously, each health insurance company required claims to be submitted on its own proprietary form design, which made billing a nightmare for healthcare providers.
