Central New York Regional Transportation Authority

The Central New York Regional Transportation Authority known as CENTRO is the bus system serving Onondaga, Oswego, and Cayuga, and Oneida counties in New York State. It has about 45 main lines with variations of every main line. All in all CENTRO has a little over 100 bus routes and 13 million passengers annually. Onondaga County routes serve Syracuse as do the Auburn and Syracuse-Oswego Routes. Routes that don't serve Downtown Syracuse are the Syracuse University shuttles, City of Auburn, City of Fulton and City of Oswego routes. Over the past two years CENTRO has improved the routes. The improvements have helped increase ridership 8% in 2003. Centro is in the process of getting federal funding for a permenant transit hub in Downtown Syracuse. If this hub were to open the thousands of people who ride CENTRO daily wouldn't have to wait it out in the cold waiting for a bus.

As of April 1, 2005, CENTRO has taken over the UTA bus system in Utica. On October 1, CENTRO will take over the VIP bus system in Rome. As a result, CENTRO now also operates in Oneida County.
