Challenge of the GoBots
Animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, based on the toy line from Tonka. Similar in theme to the more popular Transformers series, Challenge of the GoBots dealt with two opposing forces of transforming robots, the heroic Guardians, led by Leader-1, and the evil Renegades, led by Cy-Kill. The toy line on which this series was based was composed of robots that were generally more homogeneous in size than their competitors The Transformers. Largely forgotten, recent incarnations of The Transformers pay homage to their competitor by surreptitiously naming minor characters Leader-1, and releasing a novelty line of "go bots". Other contemporary toy-based cartoon series include M.A.S.K. and Bionic Six .
