Chasqui
The Chasquis were agile and highly trained runners who delivered messages and royal delicacies throughout the Inca Empire.
They were dispatched along thousands of miles, taking advantage of the vast Inca road system in the Andes of Peru, along with the Inca rope bridges built by other skilled Inca builders of the time, which allowed the chasquis to take more direct routes. On the coast they ran from Nasca to Tumbes. Each chasqui would run a certain distance, where he would meet another chasqui waiting along the relay system, who in turn would run for another distance to encounter another chasqui. Using this simple yet efficient system of delivery, the chasquis were able to convey messages over hundreds (even thousands) of miles within a few short days. One such example was a message delivered from Cusco to Quito in a week or less. Their more extensive paths also included roads throughout Colombia, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile. The chasqui runner had a modest attack and defensive capability, enabling him to carry on the task more effectively.
