Cheran is the name of a Dravidian dynasty in South India. They claim to be the only Dynasty in Kerala, the southwestern state of India. Chera, Chola and Pandya constitute the three Dravidian Kingdoms in South India.

Cherans are currently considered as a low caste when they lost their Kingdom to the invading Aryans around 9th century A.D.

These days Cherans are divided into Christian Cherans and Hindu Cherans.

Cheran is a Tamil film director who has a reputation for producing culturally strong films. His list of films include Bharathi Kannamma, Porkaalam, Desiya Geetham, Vetri Kodi Kattu, Pandavar Bhoomi and Autograph.

Cheran is one of the of the Three tamil Dynasties of Sangam Age in western Tamilnadu. The other two dynasties are Cholan and Pandian
