Chicxulub, Yucatán
Chicxulub (pronounced as CHEEK-shoe-lube) is a town in the state of Yucatán, Mexico, located at In 2000 the town had a population of about 3,400 people.
Chicxulub is most famous for being the location where geologists first discovered a crater left by the impact of a huge meteorite some 65 million years ago that may have caused the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction event; see Chicxulub Crater for more detailed discussion.
