Chip Kidd
Chip Kidd is probably the only graphic designer who is actually famous as a result of designing book covers. He's created over 1500 designs, including works for:
Bret Easton Ellis, Charles Schulz, Mark Beyer, and more.
He has written a book, himself, as well. It's called "The Cheese Monkeys" and it was published by Knopf in 2001. It's not going to go down in the pantheons of Literature or anything, but it's pretty good.
