Chofetz Chaim
Chofetz Chaim or Chafetz Chaim or Chafetz Chayim (meaning "Seeker/Desire [of] Life" in Hebrew חָפֵץ חַיִּים) is the name of an Orthodox Judaism rabbi, and the abbreviated name of a number of institutions mostly named for him or his magnum opus of the same name:
- Chafetz Chaim (rabbi) is the nom de plume of Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan.
- Chafetz Chaim (book) is the name of the book about correct speech and the prohibitions of slander by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan.
- The Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation an American organization dedicated to spreading the teachings of the Chofetz Chaim.
- The Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim: Rabbinical Seminary of America a major yeshiva in Queens, New York named for the Chofetz Cahim.
- The two words "Chofetz" (חָפֵץ) ("Desires/Seeks") and "Chaim" (חַיִּים) ("Life") are actual words in Hebrew from the Book of Psalms 34:13 "Who is the man that desires life, and loves days, that he may see good..." [1]
