DigiDestined
DigiDestined (Chosen Children in the Japanese version) is a name of a group in the anime and manga series Digimon.
DigiDestined is a term for those children selected to protect the Digital World from the forces of evil. In seasons one and two, a DigiDestined is defined by possession of a Digivice, and a link to a Digimon partner, in whom they can induce Digivolution. Apparently, only children who have seen Digimon before can become DigiDestined. By the time of the epilogue to the second season, everyone on Earth has a Digimon partner, but it is unclear if this means that they are DigiDestined.
There are no DigiDestined in the third season - although Takato likens being a Tamer to being "some kind of DigiDestined," and although the basic principle is the same (Digivice, link to partner, Digivolution), Tamers are not DigiDestined.
DigiDestined returned in the fourth season of the cartoon, when Ophanimon summoned many Earth children to the Digital World. The DigiDestined stood revealed among them when their cel phones took on the form of D-Tector Digivices. These DigiDestined possess no partners, instead transforming into Digimon themselves through the power of the Ancient Spirits.
