The Church of the Gesu, formally known as Santissimo Nome di Gesł, which translates into the English language as the Most Holy Name of Jesus, is the motherchurch of the Society of Jesus. It is in Rome at 16 Via degli Astalli at the Piazza del Gesł, and it replaced an older and smaller chapel of Saint Ignatius of Loyola dedicated to Our Lady of the Way. The soldier turned saint began planning for the Church of the Gesu in 1551.
