Cinelerra
Cinelerra is a free video editing software for editing digital video for the Linux operating system, produced by Heroine Warrior Ltd. and available under the GNU General Public License. It was one of the first freely redistributable editors available.
First released August 1, 2002, its work is based in part on an earlier product, which had been known as Broadcast 2000. Broadcast 2000 was withdrawn by its authors in September 2001, citing legal liability concerns in the wake of litigation from the RIAA and MPAA and the costs involved in high end video production.
However, Broadcast 2000 continued to be included in several Linux distributions, replaced by Cinelerra after its release.
Like most non-linear editing systems, Cinelerra presents the user with a timeline onto which to place audio and video clips. It also allows the user to place transitions between the clips and apply limited special effects.
