Cineplex Odeon Corporation
Cineplex Odeon Corporation is one of Canada's largest movie theatre operators, with theatres in its home country and the United States. Owned by Onex , they also operate Galaxy Cinemas . It was founded in 1979, when its first theatre complex opened in the Toronto Eaton Centre, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
In 1984, Cineplex bought out Canadian Theatres Inc to become Cineplex-Odeon. A film distribution outlet, Cineplex-Odeon Films, was established some time later, yet only lasted until 1997.
In May 1998 Cineplex Odeon bought out Loews Theatres to form Loews Cineplex Entertainment .
