Claiborne, Maryland

Claiborne is an unincorporated village in Talbot County, Maryland. The village is located on the eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay at , uses ZIP code 21264, and is today largely a resort village. A ferry connects the village with Kent Island.

History

William Claiborne founded the village in 1631. Its importance was temporarily raised in the 1850s when it became one terminal of an east-west railroad across the Delmarva Peninsula, and was connected by a rail ferry to Baltimore. The other terminal was at Ocean City, and the road connected with a north-south line at Salisbury.
