Clarice Lispector
Clarice Lispector (December 10 1920 - December 9 1977) was a Brazilian writer.
She was born in Chechelnyk , a village in Ukraine and moved to Brazil when she was 2 months old. In 1944 she published her first novel Perto do Coração Selvagem (Close to the Wild Heart).
She died of cancer in 1977 just one day before her 57th birthday. Her wish was to be burried at the Cemitério São João Batista in the City of Rio de Janeiro. But since she was Jewish she was buried in at the Israeli Cemetery of Cajú, also in Rio de Janeiro.
Her most famous novel is A Hora da Estrela, or The Hour of the Star, where the life of Macabéa, a poor woman in Rio de Janeiro, is described by a fictional writer called Rodrigo S.M. However, to choose the best novel out of her work is always a controversial move. Many defend A Paixão Segundo G.H. (The Passion according to G.H.), while others defend Água Viva (The Stream of Life) and so on...
