Clean line style

Clean line style (sometimes also called "the democracy of lines") is an art style in European graphic novels in which all drawn lines have the same thickness and importance, rather than being used to emphasize certain objects or be used for shading. Typically this style also involves flat block colors.

Many credit Herge's Tintin with the mainstream introduction, if not the creation, of the style and look. The look has been replicated by many other European artists (making the style one of the centerpieces of European graphic art and fiction) as well as American artists such as Martin Handford and Geoff Darrow.

Other artists whose work is in clean line style include Bob de Moor , Jacques Martin, Roger Leloup , and Edgar-Pierre Jacobs .
