Clyde Drexler

Clyde "The Glide" Drexler (born 2 June 1962 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a former NBA all-star guard.

He attended the University of Houston and was drafted 14th overall in the 1983 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. He helped lead that team to the NBA Finals in 1990 and 1992. In 1992 he served for the U.S. Olympic basketball team, nicknamed The Dream Team, and won a gold medal in the process. On February 14th, 1995, he was traded by the Blazers to the Houston Rockets, and helped lead them to their second consecutive NBA Championship later that year. In fact, if the Rockets hadn't made that trade they might very well have missed the playoffs entirely, because they were struggling to play .500 ball after an injury was suffered by their leader Hakeem Olajuwon. Drexler retired from the NBA after the 1997-'98 season in order to become head coach at his alma mater, the University of Houston, where he first gained fame playing with Olajuwon, his future Rockets teammate. Drexler's #22 jersey has been retired by both the Rockets and the Trail Blazers. He was enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame on 10 September 2004. Photo Credit: internuggler
