Coalition casualties in Afghanistan
As of April 6, 2005, there have been 214 coalition deaths in Afghanistan and other theaters of war during Operation Enduring Freedom -- 178 American, 14 German, 7 Canadian, 4 British, 3 Danish, 2 French, 2 Italians, 2 Romanians, 1 Australian, and 1 Norwegian.
In addition to these deaths, 62 Spanish peacekeepers returning from Afghanistan were killed in 2003 when their plane crashed in Turkey.
Of those soldiers and peacekeepers killed, 81 died as a result of hostile action (68 of them American) and 133 died as a result of non-hostile incidents (110 of them American). Of the American casualties, 137 died in Afghanistan and 41 died in other countries, mostly in accidents.
Numbers are hard to come by for non-US casualties, since there is no central list put out by the ISAF.
