Connexxion

Connexxion is the largest public transport bus company in the Netherlands. Its name seems to be a mutation of the variation of the English language word 'connexion' meaning connection, and may also have been inspired by that of the UK bus line operator Connex.

It also operates the train line Almelo-Mariënberg, the light-rail line between Utrecht and Nieuwegein and a few ferry routes.

For buses the National Tariff System [1] applies.

Trains use rail infrastructure supplied by ProRail. For trains there is a common tariff system with the other four public transport railroad companies in the country.

  • Connexxion.nl - contains schedules in three forms:
    • Departure times by stop and line
    • Schedules by line showing times at the main stops
    • Travel planner giving recommended journey for given starting and end point (not necessarily stops, the planner indicates to and from which stop to walk), date and time; it also supplies maps for the walking routes between the specified address and the stop

Oddly and unfortunately, no line maps are on this site, and rare on the web in general; see a link at Roosendaal for one. However, they are posted at bus stops and can sometimes also be obtained on paper in bus information offices, sometimes in a less detailed version, e.g. without bus stops being marked.
