Copán Department
Copán is a department in the west of the nation of Honduras. The departmental capital is the town of Santa Rosa de Copán. Also in the department is the famous Pre-Columbian archaeological site at Copán, one of the greatest cities of the Maya civilization.
Copán department covers a total surface area of 3,203 km² and, in 2001, had an estimated population of about 289,000 people.
